Jacumba -> Brawley

Today was a pretty good day. After soaking my muscles at Jacumba my legs felt pretty great in the morning. We started the day with about a 500 ft climb, following along the Mexico boarder, which we finished pretty quickly. After the climb there was a neat lookout tower that looked out throughout the entire desert, we were able to see most of the route we were riding today. Once we left the lookout twer we had about a 13 mile descent that dropped us around 3,000 feet. The downhill is some what terrifying but since we were riding along highway 8 the shoulders were wide and the road wasn’t rough. We then road a long long time on a super rough road, it was terrible. I previously had no idea how important nicely paved roads were for bikers, it genuinely makes such a difference. At one point we even needed to ride on the sandy wash at the side of the road because the bridge we were supposed to ride on was closed. The rest of the ride went pretty smoothly, we had a fairly large headwind but dad was breaking pretty much the whole day, making it so much easier for me. Before Monday I hadn’t ridden any more than 32 miles, so after doubling that mileage today I’m feeling super strong and proud of myself!
