Brawley -> Glamis

Today was a fairly easy day. After riding so much yesterday we wanted to take it chill because we have another 60 mile day tomorrow. We rode through town for a bit which was somewhat busy but the road was really smooth. We then rode past an almost endless amount of farm fields and a dairy farm. We had our second flat tire of the trip, dad got an industrial staple in his rear wheel. Dad was really speedy with fixing his tire and we were back on the road in no time. Once we past the farms we started to ride through a desert which eventually turned into massive sand dunes. The dunes are beautiful but they cause us to ride up and down a lot of lame tiny hills. We are camping at a look out point in the dunes, which is beautiful. We met some really cool ladies today who are participating in the Rebelle Rally. The camp spot is beautiful and we had a great dinner as we watched the gorgeous sunset. My legs are a little tired from all the riding but I’m definetly feeling them get stronger.

Jacumba -> Brawley

Today was a pretty good day. After soaking my muscles at Jacumba my legs felt pretty great in the morning. We started the day with about a 500 ft climb, following along the Mexico boarder, which we finished pretty quickly. After the climb there was a neat lookout tower that looked out throughout the entire desert, we were able to see most of the route we were riding today. Once we left the lookout twer we had about a 13 mile descent that dropped us around 3,000 feet. The downhill is some what terrifying but since we were riding along highway 8 the shoulders were wide and the road wasn’t rough. We then road a long long time on a super rough road, it was terrible. I previously had no idea how important nicely paved roads were for bikers, it genuinely makes such a difference. At one point we even needed to ride on the sandy wash at the side of the road because the bridge we were supposed to ride on was closed. The rest of the ride went pretty smoothly, we had a fairly large headwind but dad was breaking pretty much the whole day, making it so much easier for me. Before Monday I hadn’t ridden any more than 32 miles, so after doubling that mileage today I’m feeling super strong and proud of myself!

Day Two

Day Two

43.09 miles

Alpine -> Jacumba

Today went pretty well. We started with and ended with a pretty big but powered through. We had a small break with some really cute donkeys and cows on the side of the road. Soon after our break we popped our first tire of the trip, but we were able to change it fairly quick and get back on the road. Also I forgot to mention yesterday that I hit a unidentified object in the road and it ended up causing my back wheel to go out of true. We rode on the highway eight today which was really strange but the road itself was nicely paved and had wide shoulders so it wasn’t very gnarly. Between miles 20 and 30 the road got pretty gnarly with a small shoulder and a bumpy road so we ended up riding off the shoulder and on the actual road. The last ten miles were really nice and pretty much all down hill. We road right along the Mexico boarder and follow it most of tomorrow. We stopped at Jacumba Hotsprings and soaked our muscles for awhile, hopefully tomorrow I don’t feel like a noodle.

San Diego -> Alpine

The first day went well! We started at Ocean Beach by dipping our bike tires in the ocean and heading out after that. Riding through San Diego had a lot of car but it wasn’t terrible. We had a big head wind most of the ride with a big steady uphill, this wasn't the best but we powered through. Looking forward to tomorrow and the Jacumba Hot Springs!
